Although Kismet is listed as special needs she is really just special.  She is blind but she doesn't have any needs different from any other cat.  Although she may explore new items/surfaces slower than a sighted cat, her ability to learn and love is absolutely amazing.  She is a gentle unassuming girl.  When she wants a little attention, she may sit next to you and gently put her paw on your arm, or if you are lying down in bed she may press her cute nose gently into your cheek.

She has been in her foster home for a while but it took her no time at all to learn to maneuver around the house, find the litter box, find her food bowl (beg for food when it's empty), bat kitty toys around the house or chase a feather toy as it is dragged on the ground.   She adjusts to new situations so quickly it's hard to believe she's blind.

Kismet is laid back and likes hanging out with the other kitties in her foster home.

Kismet was hit by a car and taken to Animal Services who found her  Microchip was registered to Sheltering Hands.  In May 2019 Kismet was spayed by a colony caregiver as part of our low cost spay/neuter program.  After reaching out to the caregiver it was determined she could not afford medical care for the kitty and the only other option was euthanasia.  Marion County Animal Services partnered with Sheltering Hands and agreed to surrender the kitty to Sheltering Hands to get the kitty to our vet for evaluation.

Kismet had some broken facial bones (that will heal on their own),  but the major issue was the head injury had caused her to become blind.   She may have some ability to see shadows.

Since Sheltering Hands home delivers each adopted cat, all adopters must live in the North Central Florida area.  Thank you for understanding. You can meet this wonderful kitty by appointment with an approved application.  Pre-adopt applications are available here:  www.shelteringhands.org/info/adoption   If you have additional questions you can email Sheltering Hands at adoptions@shelteringhands.org.
