Volunteer

Volunteers are needed to help our organization provide outstanding care for the cats and kittens.  We have a wide variety of rewarding volunteer opportunities and would love to have you join us.  Training will be provided for all opportunities.

Volunteer opportunities fall within three categories:

  • Medical Support: Interested in helping with spay/neuter surgeries, intake exams or post-surgical cat care? Medical Support opportunities are for you! (This opportunity is at our Ocala location)

  • Adoption Services and Care @ PetSmart: Want to spend time with the kitties at our Auxiliary Adoption Location at PetSmart in Lady Lake? We're looking for volunteers to help clean the area, feed our kitties, spend some cuddle time with them and help introduce them to their potential new families!

  • General Assistance at Sheltering Hands: Our main location in Ocala can always use some help. Volunteers may help with cat care in Coco's House, data entry and filing, assisting with light cleaning or building upkeep needs and more. Our Volunteer Coordinator will work with you based on your interests and schedule. (This opportunity is at our Ocala location)

See what our volunteers say....

"Volunteering at Sheltering Hands has meant the world to me.  I have never had anything that has been so rewarding in my heart.   I love all the cats and love to see them and how they are doing, not to mention, for them to get their forever homes.  What a gift that has been to me.  I am thankful to my friend for making me "just try it".  - Janet B.

"As the owner of a cat that is not the most cuddly, I am thrilled to be part of this great team.  I get the opportunity to share my love with a variety of cats and kittens.  As a no-kill organization, I know the cats and kittens are going to loving homes." - Elena G.

"When I retired and moved to Ocala I knew I wanted to find a local rescue group that I could help.  I was so impressed with the wonderful programs offered by Sheltering Hands, that I know that this was the organization I wanted to join.  Spending time making the lives of homeless and abandoned cats a little more comfortable is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done and it is especially thrilling when they get their forever homes thanks in part to my efforts.  Volunteering with Sheltering Hands makes me feel like I am making a difference (and isn't that what most of us want?)" - Pam S.

"I am not very religious, but a friend sent me a quote attributed to St. Francis of Assisi that sums up perfectly how I feel: "Not to hurt our humble brethren is our first duty to them, but to stop there is not enough.  We have a higher mission - to be of service to them whenever they require it." I have spent many years doing what I had to earn a living.  Now I am doing what I love - caring for animals." - Meg K.
